My Resopnsibilities
Co-Host -
As one of the 3 co-hots its my job to feed off of the information being presented by James and contribute an insightful, humorous, and engaging dialogue in order to keep the audience engaged and informed.
Run Audio -
During recording I manage the audio and facilitate the technical aspects. I set up the audition file, and monitor the recordings on the multitrack adjusting levels in real time.
Editor -
Merging Audio -
Sound Effects -
I like to add sound effects related to what we are talking about and mix them in with the vocal tracks and create a rich sound experience. Often times I need to layer sound effects to get the desired ambiance or cacophony.
Track Editing -
I comb through the episode and cut out any superfluous content. This includes trimming out any obvious breaks pauses stutters or filler words that would diminish the listeners experience. I also remove long off-topic tangents, jokes that didn't land, and anything else that would otherwise take away from the core listening experience. My cuts are seamless and the final product that the listener hears sounds as if it was originally recorded that way.
Dev records remotely so the first step in the process is to import and sync his track. Then I adjust levels in post as I go making sure it all sounds cohesive.
Game History
Game History is a spin off of the main show. This one is produced entirely by myself. I pick, research, and write about a topic within the parameters of Game History and present the episode to my Co-Hosts. After that I edit the episode just as I do for the typical Film History episode. Game History Episodes are less frequent and are currently produced when I have time.
Video Games First Rock Star
The first episode of "Game History" discussed the legacy of John Romero and his career defining game, "Daikatana". John is a founding father of modern games; he was a founder of famed game studio "id", helped to create Wolfenstein, Doom, and was a pioneer of the first person shooter genre in general. However, it is what he did next that would define his career. With all the money and fame any game director could hope to achieve he set off to make a new studio "Ion Storm" and create the most ambitious PC First Person Shooter of all time. This is the story of how it all went so wrong and how Daikatana would go down in history as one of video games biggest train wrecks.
Follow link above to read/hear the opening monologue that I wrote setting up the episode by painting the picture of the time period our story takes place in.
Future Plans
Film History: The History Of Film is still in its infancy and we have a lot of plans for the future of the show. The rollout of these plans will take place over the next few months as we continue to develop this project around our already packed schedules.
Patreon -
As we expand the content we offer and develop new shows and special episodes under the Film History Umbrella we plan to use Patreon to further generate revenue and expand our community engagement.
Additional COntent
Off Topic Compilations -
After any given episode there is always a significant amount of cut content that gets too off topic to justify leaving in. Despite it not fitting naturally into the episode much of this content is still interesting or funny and will one day see the light of day.
Pure Conjecture -
Inspired by the "Mysterious Hollywood Deaths" episode "Pure Conjecture" would see the film history crew solving real life mysteries using nothing but baseless pontification.
The History Of Everything -
The Film History crew has a variety of interests in topics outside of film. Not enough interest to make a whole new show, but enough to do an episode about whatever that topic may be under the larger umbrella of "The History of Everything"
Field Trips -
Living in LA gives us access to a lot of real life film history. Whether its Backlots, Museums or other historic locals, there is a lot to see and report back on with a special report.
